Elitist created 1MDB

Datuk Seri Najib Razak has come out to reject what he termed as unsubstantiated and outrageous allegations against him and his family, saying he had never taken funds for personal gains from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) or any other entities.

In his latest Facebook posting, Najib said the false allegations were part of a concerted campaign of political sabotage to topple a democratically elected prime minister.

Dance around all he wants , but PM Najib has not categorically denied that indeed,
Billions of Rm in funds were deposited into his account.!
Does it MEAN – Yes,its all True !?
That hundreds of millions USD was channelled into his bank account from 1MDB linked sources.!
His FB posting seem to be confirming that the Billions deposited into his acount is true when he stated “not for personal use” a few times-these being the operative words..
It suggests that , the money was used – channelled to finance what He may term as Money is King style of money politics.
Perhaps ,the funds was used to finance millions needed for voters to redeem their vote-coupons for voting a certain party-as a small example- and what else Hanky Panky – In short, financing attempts to influence results of a General Election.
Isn’t that the main important issue?
Principle of the matter is -1MDB a sovereign backed investment fund.
Loans taken to finance ventures abroad, that PM Najib as Finance Minister is in control of,and has final say.
But ,1MDB has directors PM appointed to oversee the administration and financial matters .
So- what is so many millions doing in PM Najib’s own bank account, instead of 1 MDB accounts?
Or why the need to channel hundreds of millions into His own bank Account ?
As  PM consistently claims He is merely on an advisory role in the 1MDB affairs.!
How he used the money  – be it “personal gain or not”   or  ” who is behind the expose’  in a conspiracy to topple him.”
is irrelevant – as the main principle is –
Whether there are elements of CBT or whether it can be qualified as embezzlement of Goverment funds?
Both of which are illegal and are seen as White Collar crimes – punishable by the laws of our Malaysian constitution – regardless of and affords no immunity to any individual’s position ,influence ,stature, power of the one who commited the acts.!
According to Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ)
The allegations made by Wall Street Journal (WSJ) against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak that billions of ringgit
were transferred into his personal accounts were baseless and unsubstantiated,
WSJ defended the  article stating  the report was based on investigations and solid documentation.

Hong Kong bureau chief Ken Brown said they had been very careful with the report given the nature that it is on a country’s leader.

“We are very careful and we believe the investigation and documents we have are solid and come

from reliable investigation and not a political investigation.”

He added that the documents they possessed had been shared with the Attorney-General and

had also been seen by the prime minister.

When asked about the documents, Khairy (KJ) said he has not seen them.

“No. As I said these are allegations as of yet substantiated. He (Najib) already issued very clear

statement yesterday (denying the allegations),” he said.

The burden of proof, he added, lies with the accuser, not the accused.

“This is a very serious allegation and the logical conclusion is that there should be legal action.

As I said, the PM reserves the right to do so.”

The prime minister’s political secretary, said to a local daily that the PM

would take legal action against WSJ as the article was defamatory.

The article which was published yesterday, reported that Malaysian investigators probing into

1Malaysia Development Bhd’s (1MDB) investments allegedly traced nearly US$700 million worth

of deposits from companies linked to the state investment arm going into what they

believe was Najib’s personal bank accounts.

Actually, the whole country ought to wholly agree with YB KJ and get PM Najib to  sue the WSJ for this highly defamatory article

Let the “beans”  be spilt-  in a court of law and see what  “beans”  WSJ have.

Let the whole country determine for themselves – if there is financial mis-conduct or breach of public confidence of PM Najib’s brainchild – 1MDB.

The 1MDB fiasco has been allowed to fester by dragging on too long and inadvertently  and negatively impacting ordinary Malaysians .

1MDB is accused of burdening people.(GST ,subsidy removal etc)

Of getting desperate to source funds merely to service the interests of a collosal debt (Tabung Haji , EPF,Income Tax ,TRX -IPPs under and over valuations.

And among the reasons for the alarming performance of RM, weakening and unstable..on and on.

Feeling Fed Up with 1MDB..!

Malaysians are getting psychologically weary and just wish to move on and have this

1MDB unending saga / drama behind.-

It’s  getting ludicrously  over the  limits of what Malaysians can put up with  !

But it seems to be like a self inflicted leg wound  that will not heal-and risk becoming gangrenous -unless the leg is surgically removed  or it may risk infecting  the heart and the whole body perishes.!

PM Najib-If He sues WSJ

On another line of thought , if PM Najib seriously consider filing a lawsuit against WSJ for defamation –

It need to be remembered that- WSJ like NYT are not a cheap Tabloid journalistic organizations.

They are journalistic entities ,with network of intelligence gathering assets across the world –

With access to information across all spectrums / political / social etc .

That know very well ,how vulnerable they can be to lawsuits, that can bankrupt them not to mention loss of credibility

as reputable media organizations to be taken seriously. if they just publish unsubstantiated hearsays that cannot be verified.!

And , in this instance , it is intriguing food for thought to wonder if , the facts / documents/evidence that can prove the validity of the published allegations – will be held close to their chest and not revealed unless provoked.

.      The Ace up their Sleeves?

In all probability, a lawsuit may be what is hoped for-

when they know the strength of what they possess as evidence that can prove beyond doubt

the validity of their claim in a court for the whole world to know-

and cannot be disputed nor denied not play politics with.!

PM Najib may be well advised to proceed with lawsuits wisely, for what  ” Can of Worms”  that WSJ can potentially open.!

For PM Najib may be underestimating the power of investigative journalism at His own Peril !
It was investigative journalism and unrelenting expose’ and ” Deep Throats” that knock the most powerful man in the world at that period ( US President ) off his perch!  (Watergate come to Mind)

FMT has this article :

Dr Mahathir Mohamad may be behind the blockbuster claim by both the Wall Street Journal

and whistle-blower web portal Sarawak Report widely circulating today that funds to the tune of nearly

US$700 million from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB)

were diverted into Prime Minister Najib Razak’s personal bank accounts in March 2013, reports the Asian Sentinel (AS).

AS notes that this is the first time that Najib has been personally connected to alleged “irregularities” in 1MDB’s financials.

It claims that the revelation “could be the final blow to bring down a leader who has been bullet proof from years of charges against his integrity” and that Mahathir’s “two-year crusade” to “drive Najib from office and put him in jail” might now well succeed.

“Najib has withstood a continuing barrage of difficult questions about the fund for more than two years,

blaming political enemies and repeatedly rounding up the divisional warlords of UMNO to back him,” the report reads.

Ominously, however, AS believes that Mahathir has more information,

including evidence of further movement of funds

and even information about the mysterious death of Altantuya Shaariibuu.

The report also cites UMNO’s recent decision to postpone party elections as a bid “to forestall any challenge from Mahathir’s forces in the party.”

It claims that Xavier Justo’s recent arrest in Thailand was “closely orchestrated” by PetroSaudi,

and that accusations that he had tampered with documents

“to make them more damaging” are thought to be “part of a move by

Najib to discredit Mahathir before he could feed more documents and evidence to the press.”

“Najib’s forces know what Mahathir has and are seeking to discredit him,

(Sarawak Report’s Clare Rewcastle-Brown) and

The Edge Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur-based financial publication,

which has aggressively pursued the 1MDB story,” AS reports.

It claims that government-controlled media is being used for this purpose.

Don’t shoot the messenger !

Actually – never mind the messengers, makes no difference

if their intentions were dis-honorable or noble in conveying the message.

Focus on the “Message.”. rather than the petty distractions.!
Because the significance of the “message” affects all Malaysians- who are already much burdened
by the peripheral impacts that may directly or indirectly be linked to the 1MDB fiasco

GST- EPF-Tabung Haji-Income Tax -TRX- .Abu Dhabi loan etc .

All of these merely to service the interests of a collosal sovereign debt ?

When/Where does it end ?

And the alarming unstability and depreciation of the RM.?

Ordinary people on the street may think  the weakening Rm has nothing to do with them or

realise how it can impact on their daily lives/livelihoods with dire consequences –

Forex Trading to many of these minds is of an alien environment –

and doesn’t make much difference to –  nor affect their daily grind in eking out a sustenance.

Life goes on for them.

unless it can be pointed out to them,

the links to the cost of living or purchasing power or even

cost of education for those affluent who can afford sending their kids overseas etc etc
In effect – negative results of a weak Rm..

Maybe then ,perhaps ,those who are in positions of power and influence in

Civil service or Goverment Administration –

who may be able to effect some stability and restore a sense of security

can finally sit up and take notice..and more importantly-
-DO Something about the situation !

Public perception towards the current BN administration is at an all time low,

with wave upon wave of scandalous allegations on corruption ,

power mis-use and abuse of the Tax payers contributions..

All these scandalous allegations needs no specific reference except for all encompassing name -1MDB !

And many are wondering if the weakening Rm is linked to investor confidence/or lack of – because of 1MDB issue.?

Perhaps a bit crude or extreme in the analogy -but like the proverbial

“frog trapped inside the cauldron of water with a slow flame below –

slowly boiling the water and the poor frog-

and worst part of it is that the frog doesn’t even realise it’s being cooked alive !”

Worrying Questions of Malaysian’s on 1MDB

What next when the next due date of the interest payment of the 1MDB loans approaches?
And where will the money be sourced from this time ? Which GLC to loan from ?
What National assets to pawn?
Why are those in Governance allowing our nation to be dragged into such a vulnerable position in the first place?

Imagine all the abovementioned was prevented or never happened, the Billions now being wastefully spent on

servicing a humongous debt that we should never have gotten in- in the first place-

if those in our Goverment had been doing their jobs !

All that Billions would have been better utilized for so much more to improve the Country’s infrastucture on both

East and West Malaysia and improve lives of ordinary Malaysians.

When will the powers-that -be , those who have the collective influence –

sit up and take notice and do something about it –

or are they going to sit idly by on their hands underneath their fleshy bottoms.

Cowering in cowardly silence .

And risk drowning together with the entire Nation ..

if the ones responsible for dragging the entire country into this messy situation is unable to salvage things!

And situation deteriorates to hopelessness and proves too late to rectify without sacrficing a huge chunk of our nation’s soul.!

Mind stupefying- that a situation

created by a few greedy ambitious power crazed elitist

fuelled by greed on one party and coupled with crazed craving of megalomaniacs of another

but that they  inadvertently lost control of the 1MDB beast they created

and the monster goes on a destructive rampage

terrorizing the collective psyche of a nation

un-restrained but  more horrifically frightening still is that

creators of the beast refuse to admit- the beast is off it’s leash

maintaining that the monster can be reined in

the beast can be tamed-

1MDB is impacting to a  degree -the country’s economic situation- and signs are that its getting more dire-

and yet despite so -is still defended staunchly  by a whole powerful legion of a bunch with reins to the Goverment,
Who themselves had nothing to do with it initially –  but got dragged into it along the way as the situation worsens –

And they seem to be in Denial themselves..! When panic buttons are being pressed left and right ..

When alarms have being wailing non stop past 2 years.

Yet, These bunch are so blase and oblivious  to the dire consequences happening as we speak.!

Prelude to ” Hear YE Staunch Defenders of 1MDB! “

First they pontificated the Racist Rhetoric ,

And THEY did not speak out—
Because THEY were not Racist

and it was not expedient – Politically

Then they came for the Moderates and Liberals …..

who criticize the Bumi crutch  syndrome

and the religious and racist Bigotry ,

that was emanating from extreme elements

                                                                                of our peace loving society

And THEY did not speak out—
Because THEY were all for affirmative action.

And then surfaced voices of extreme Religious Fundamentalism ,

                               disrupting our  harmonious multi-cultural society

But THEY did not speak out-

because it would be against the “divide and rule” principle

Then they came for the  Seditious –

And  THEY did not speak out—
                                                   Because THEY were not Seditious

First were Voices of suspicion –

on off-shore accounts of some investment entity
that may be  linked to Finance Ministry

from  Same voices that highlighted how National cattle feedlots –

becomes addresses of high-end  condominium Lots
Voices manifested from the Opposition.

But THEY did not speak out ,

because THEY were not from the Opposition

Then the Lid was blown and all came to know of 1MDB
a Saga of movie deals or multi-million pent houses
and Arab based Petro -Saudi –

that turn out to be a shell  company !

And some guy named Jho Low who routed
70 million to his Goodstar company -via petro-saudi
sourced from 1MDB—

in a transaction that only can be described as Dodgy

In spite of all that-
THEY did not speak out –

THEY were claiming it to be some conspiracy
Or were THEY compensated to be mis-informed – Lucratively ?

Then came GST and the financial raids on GLCs..

But THEY did not speak out.
THEY were suppose to

                              Loyally defend without question

Lest THEY be asked to hand in their resignations!

Now ,there has arisen – questionable transactions
Possible CBT with alleged financial misappropriation

As things unravel- will THEY still be stubbornly muffled

                 By THEIR misguided loyalty ?

For then,eventually ….

they will come for the malfeasant in 1MDB

To sought out the accomplices to the irregularities
to demand for answers and accountability
If it is proven there is conduct of Criminal impropriety

And then THEY will find that.

As their past acts and deeds are Condemned
There will be No-One who will want to speak for THEM !

Tun Mahathir’s slip of tonque may be revealing his true character !

Walau eh.. Tun M..Slip of the tonque or is it in one unguarded moment , He actually revealed to all, the side HE would much rather not be seen.

In yet another Tirade against PM Najib. He launches into the same old regurgitated points that he has been using as weapons ever since he began this crusade to topple PM Najib.

Although His opening remark was really a “killer of a remark!”

We (Malays) may be in the marjority but with  leader like Najib !

We will lose the marjority, People will not support Us.!”

I do believe that – This is the Fate that awaits Us- As long as Najib is in power !

Then came the familiar tirade about —

The financial scandals of the IPP over-valuation purchase and the TRX land bank shady deal of 1MDB.

Losing support from voters.- dropping his personal support/backing for Najib as PM

Cynical reference to BR1M

The Beholden to Tun Razak and repay his gratitutde to Tun Razak by backing Najib as PM

That UMNO will certainly lose the coming GE and Malays will lose political power and  UMNO as the champion and protector of the Malays.

Najib will doom  the Malay race and country and the Malays will not be able to recover if He stays as PM now.

Najib is destroyer of the Malay race , Religion and the country..

A new point Tun M made is that -Najib is worried that He may be arrested and face a Criminal charge for his mis-conduct.

No 2 ways about it-  Tun M is openly accusing PM Najib of being a criminal and have commited an illegal act.

Its totally understandable He is worried about UMNO losing the next GE and the fall-out that may ensue.

When He stated that PM Najib’s stubborn resistance to hang-on to  power maybe due to the fact that,Najib  may be worried of being arrested and held accountable for the “crimes”-

It may be a hint as to his own personal mis-givings as well.

Tun M was not exactly without controversy during his 22 year PM.

If UMNO really falls  and  is really booted out come next GE- what skeletons may be discovered or un-covered if there is an effort to really investigate.all past administrations mis-deeds ?

Although,in all probability, out of deference to TDM’s age and service, there may not be aggressive pursuing for accountability.

But , it doesn;t mean that ,un-covered skeletons will not be shown for all to see.

And that may be what is haunting  TDM,

If UMNO should lose it’s strangle hold on Putra Jaya with a new infusion of of completely new administration .

It is not hard to imagine that there will be cries for justice and retribution..and efforts to recover lost national wealth .

There are scores of worthy candidates from 3 administrations from Tun M to Najib’s ranks to choose from.

There must be  scapegoats to appease the ones baying for justice .!

Marginalized Malays?

The only uncalled for remark ,was the reference made to the Singaporean Malays.

It doesn’t seem fair to the Singaporean Malay community for Mahathir to knock- in one sweeping statement

comparing Southern Thailand Malays to Singaporean Malays and others ? Where and Who?

Its common knowledge that he has issues with Singapore- esp with the late LKY but still,it

does not warrant a generalization on Singaporean Malays in such a patronizing way.

Surely the Singaporean Malays can speak for themselves without TDM painting  such a bleak

picture of them as a marginalized group,as if they are so oppressed and

denied equal rights as citizens of the Lion city.

Disrespectful to the whole SIngaporean Malay community ? But of course ,he is entitled to his opinion,

and there are SIngaporeans from the Malay community who concur but also dissenting opinions

from the same community who will like nothing more than to shoot down his “exalted” opinion.

Lest Tun M forgets , their revered former PM is Lee Kuan Yew not TDM.

It will be interesting to see if there will be a reaction from down South on His generalisation of Singaporean Malays as a marginalized community ..

Wondering how it will sit in minds and any will come forth to rebutt his statement to defend their status.

And doesn’t Malaysia have an open door policy for SIngaporeans of Malay descent..if they are as

oppressed and treated so unfairly,it would make sense that there will be a mass exodus to Malaysia.

,which is hardly the case!
Meaning-the SIngaporean Malays rather stay put and enjoy all the benefits of a SIngaporean ID/Passport

and 1st world standard of living ,top notch education for their kids -freedom of religious expression

where faith is a  personal relationship with their creator- without Goverment interference or intimidation –

and price to pay for all that – stay put as Singaporean and be marginalized or oppressed ??

As Tun M puts it succintly !

Starting from 2.20

Tun Siti Hasmah seems worried about wayward Najib or …?

Quite many may not have  noticed, – or it didn’t cross their minds to observe –

just because it was the highly endearing and respected Tun Siti Hasmah who said it -very briefly.

Simply because Tun Siti Hasmah is such a well loved gentle grand-matronly soul in the psyche of Malaysians -that in the few seconds that transpired ,

When Tun M and Tun Siti Hasmah came back from the Umrah, .

Particularly Tun Siti Hasmah sounding very concerned in her voice referring to Najib..

Quoting her brief remark…

“Saya berdoa depan Kaabah untul keselamatan bagi semua orang

Saya sebagai Ibu..Saya juga doakan untuk Najib pun

Supaya dia jangan membuat sesuatu yang tidak baik bagi Agama kita.”

(Lets consider Tun Siti Hasmah voicing her concern from a  perspective of a concerned Mother /Grandmother or simply a woman really worried about the well being of her close friends and family,-in light of whats happening in the political arena where her Husband is directly leading the charge in trying to dislodge the most powerful man in the country-(when they are at a golden age where most will just take it easy and do flower nursery or farming etc)

And indirectly her children , who are high profile personalities in their own right .. may get nudged or drawn in to the political battle royale  ,not to mention ,it may involve confronting close family friends/associates.

Worry may be too mild a word to describe how she may be feeling.!

Something’s gotta give, a winner means there will be a loser, and in the process , there will be the bruised/wounded-

Somebody may get hurt but  now the ones confronting each other are ,on one side is  Family (Tun M) and on the other Friends /Acquaintances She has known for decades..(Najib)  who is the son of someone they had a bond with Decades ago.. (Tun Razak)

Tough spot to be in between !

In a nutshell, She said above…

I prayed in front of the Kaabah for the the safety (well being) for Every one!

I – As a Mother—I included a prayer for Najib.

That he may refrain from doing something that  is not good in our Faith(Religion)

Its so noticeable the seriously genuine sense of worry she expresses  about Najib.,and a certain sense of anxiety in the tone of her voice – as she tries to retain her composure but yet ,if one pays attention.. the saddened emotional tinge to her voice can be sensed -revealing her worry or she speaks about Najib,

In a tone that is reminiscient of what  Mothers usually use- when they talk about their own wayward  children- that sounds much like a very concerned mother whose worried that their child

“may have already done something wrong -but might be about to do another wrong and make things worst .”

A situation that may get most Mothers or parents so anxious and even frantic with worry.!.

Wonder if Tun Siti Hasmah in this instance  is feeling that way about Najib.?.

Being presumptious here a bit –perhaps she sees herself as a God-Mom to Najib besides his real mom. Tun Rahah Noah..She probably was already acquainted with Najib when he was in his diapers. and She feels a certain instinctive  maternal responsibility towards him.

And as with all Mothers..and the protective maternal instinct ,that will stand by their children/charges –

and forgive whatever transgressions regardless – without conditions..makes no difference..whether its a God son or adopted or their own..( An unconditional forgiveness that  is something that even Fathers cannot do ! )

Nonetheless,they can’t help but worry..!

Guess Women especially Mothers may know and understand this maternal instinct better..

Tun Dr Siti Hasmah. who afterall probably watched Najib grow up, family friends with the Razaks-and perhaps have a close kinship / relationship with Tun Rahah..

Wonder how close were the Razaks and Mahathirs in the early years, especially the spouses , Tun Siti Hasmah and Tun Rahah..when their husbands were young turks and comrades-in-arms carving out their niche in Malaysian politics.,whilst they took care of the domestic front.

Between the 2 men in a common political struggle, there is bound to be a bond between them that includes their spouses and the protective paternal / maternal sense  extended to their children.

(Just being presumptious and mulling the above !)

On a more thought provoking stream

Gaging from Tun Siti Hasmah overall body language and tone of voice.

Is there something more alarming that  Tun Siti Hasmah knows about that is nor revealed.?

That lovely woman whose demeanour or aura genuinely projects a kind – warm and caring personality ..says out openly her worry about Najib – is in itself a cause for concern and contemplation.

For if there is something that we should have learned to take seriously ,it’s women’s intuition and  when they make remarks that directly affects them stemming from their emotional disposition ,may be wise to listen and mull on it- if there is anything to be deciphered!  Very different from reticence of men held back by pride and ego.!

And noteworthy is that Tun Siti Hasmah is not a politician . She is more known for her compassion and caring persona in public life when Tun M was PM.

She is definitely not the type who does  political double speak,, She is way too elegant -dignified and noble .

A lovely kind hearted Grand-motherly soul like Tun Siti Hasmah voices out a worry – may be a good idea to take it seriously and ponder on it – for it’s without doubt  genuine and sincerely  from her heart.,revealing her real feelings!

Hence when she expresses concern about Najib and  openly says that She earnestly “Prays for his well-being and that He will not do something drastic against His Faith.”  Its food for thought.!

It prompts one to think  whether , if it is  based on something – some knowledge  – she may be privy to -but She hope will not come to that..

Or then again –  She may be actually hinting a message  to Najib himself ,hoping he might be watching – Or as it turns out , is merely a genuine concern.!

But it does get one to wonder what the grounds are for the worry of  Tun Siti Hasmah

Just mulling here, maybe reading too much into it and baseless afterall..nonetheless…

Viewing the video ,can’t help but  notice..!

The  emphasis in her tone of voice when she said…  “Keselamatan…….”

Then what was noticeable also was that it seemed to pain her a little when she said

” Saya sebagai Ibu…………………”

And the whole country knows about the spate of Tun M and Najib..

Therefore , its not too unreasonable to contemplate on – Just how far will Najib go to ensure he survives the onslaught from Tun M ?

And in his slug-fest  for his political self-preservation or survival…..

Will Najib  duel a gentleman’s feud?

Or is he capable of really fighting dirty to fend off the attacks and launch a counter offensive?

Tun M so far seems to be focusing on mainly the financial scandals and irregularities of Najib’s premiership, and trying to avoid getting personal ,apart from references  to Najib’s stepson.but then that was unavoidably questioning the source of the wealth..

Although there have been inferences to the spouse, yet it was still around the unexplained conspicuous excesses in  wealth and obscene spending ..

Will PM Najib extend the same courtesy to Tun M and detractors by not getting too personal and not drag family into the scrap?

Still  Tun M ‘s hint at the way the Penang UMNO vice chairman   and how they dealt with him  after he made a police report on 1MDB ,may be indication of what Najib may be prepared to do to fight off detractors..

Seriously seriously hope that Tun Siti Hasmah , when she said “Saya berdoa untuk “Keselamatan”  semua orang”.

She was just simply expressing a worry for the well being of all..

And she was just being a” woman- like the average women -who have tendencies  to worry or be alarmed in a over hyped way..

And that she  “was not feeling “threatened”  in any way.or She really knows something others don’t that is causing her anxiety .!”

Just like when she expresses, ” Saya sebagai Ibu……….”

” She is obviously worried about her family and those whose well being she cares about .”

As for this statement

“.Saya juga doakan untuk Najib pun

Supaya dia jangan membuat sesuatu yang tidak baik bagi Agama kita.”

Only the dear sweet lady herself Tun Siti Hasmah may know what she may be alluding to..

And does prompts the highly intriguing albeit sinister connotation in the query..

How  Far or Vicious  will  Najib and His ” Significant Other ”  and  His crew be willing to go to Win or Preserve his Position?

Is it “survival at all cost ,take no prisoners  ” type of confrontation?

What collateral damage will he be willing to put up with?

Of course ,who will be the ultimate expendable sacrifices in the UMNO stable?

Whether Tun M will get his way or Najib emerges intact is still to be seen, and the final bell is still many rounds away.

Its just gets more intriguing by the the show unfolds and things unravel slowly for PM Najib.

Of Lee Kuan Yew and Dr Mahathir respective styles of premiership.

Despite both PMs having strong authoritarian tendencies in governing but  TDM’s  administration  basically institutionalised a system that entrenched rampant political corruption as the norm –  whilst LKY demonstrated what can be achieved by a goverment with a zero tolerance of corruption. That’s the underlying difference between the 2 PMs and their respective ideals of Governing a nation with a multi cultural identity.
For LKY it was all or nothing, and particularly  stern against money politics that drags many Goverments down.Self-less interests style of LKY ,everything was for the best interests of his nation state vs Selfish interests of TDM’s goverment, ,inverted priorities .!
And results today in SIngapore and Malaysia ,esp of the goverment machinery is a testimony to that.

If TDM had the foresight to recognize the rot of corruption and wanted to or chosed to confront and address corruption firmly and sternly when he was at the height of his powerful premiership,Malaysia may very well have been better off  ,and who knows ,perhaps even match or surpass the efficiency and success story Singapore is today.

Point being ,both PMs and their governing style is a reflection of their own mentalities/attitudes /convictions of what and how their perspectives of the immediate world around them are , and how they view their own societies and perhaps allows a sneak peek into a window of what their personal personalities may be  like -by  the paths they chose to thread in Governing their own nation and the collective society they think they understand .

Pragmatism vs Materialism in Game of Power and  Influence

LKY’s pragmatism and foresight in recognising the formula to efficient governing above all ,  is a clean goverment with no nonsense approach to corruption- whereby TDM opted to leverage corrupt practices to his advantage and hence a barely functional goverment machinery ,prioritized by greed and personal interests in accumulating wealth , as among the driving force formulas – was put into momentum, where practices  such as  “commisions ,percentages ,third party or under table etc etc”  are the standard – without which  things may not get done efficiently.

And that momentum has been sliding downhill ever since – casting aside Govermental Transparency/ Accountability .

Dubious questionable financial practices are allowed to slide because of influence or political connections ,as long as there is a “greasing of palms” , that almost every Malaysian or non Malaysian business entities or even the man on the street has acknowledged that it is the standard on how things are done – in many Malaysian business environments, particularly in dealings with Federal/National  entities.

Can “Kow Tim” perhaps in Malaysia but don’t even consider the notion in Singapore !

Just mull on what the word ” Kow Tim” means to Malaysians.Essentially in most Malaysian psyches, most will just good naturedly shrugged it off as how things “are” and always “have been” .  And nothing objectionable to the term.

Yet in SIngaporean mindsets, even a whiff of something similar can land one in hot soup and is an abhorrent thing to even suggest as an option to gain any advantage in commercial enterprises or extricate one from a bind with the authorities..
That is the stark difference in the societal mindsets of the 2 nations.

Malaysians visiting or working in Singapore will never dare to even hint at “Kow Tim” when dealing with Singaporean Authorities/Civil service/Ministries , knowing for a fact that its un-acceptable and not tolerated and definitely worsen things if they are already in trouble with the authorities.

But on the other hand , almost instinctively, “Kow Tim”  or “selesai ” or ” settle”  will be  amongst the open options , considered in the mindsets , if they are in a “situation” in Malaysia, in dealing with authority. Fact is that , the thought of perhaps  they can buy themselves out of a “tight spot” in whatever trouble they are in – does come to mind.

But in Singapore, that thought is banished and dare not be entertained as a reflex and rule. That’s the difference of the environment and societal psyches in Singapore and Malaysia.,where ,in the former ,- regardless of ethnicity /nationality or country of origin – All  in residence in the city state – acknowledge and respect and take the rule of law and clean governance very seriously .

Essence of LKY’s  non-corruptible governance

And that is the essence of LKY’s premiership that to his credit ,managed to inculcate into non-Singaporean residents ,a healthy respect for the laws of the city state  , forged a level of self-discipline into not only the average Singaporeans but also those who do public service for  their own Singaporean people – always having the collective best interests of the nation and sense of well being of the people  as the priority..

And in-place is a Govermental structure that is efficient and by and large  non-corruptible.The anchor formula or foundation pillar that supports all the policies and strategies which resulted in the Singaporean goverment’s economic success and prosperity..

The very formula that TDM chosed to ignore but instead selected govermental  patronage , by selectively enriching hand picked cronies , who through their collective accumulated wealth , can be translated into power and influence that can be leveraged to political advantage. And be used to stay the hold on power.  .

And transparency and accountability in Governance need to take a back seat in order to consolidate his power, through the purchasing of influence by keeping his stable of wealthy, powerful and hence influential circle of  supporters – well fed.

Inadvertently ,the wealth of the nation was unevenly distributed, and even those supposed to be  beneficiaries of  the Govermental affirmative action policies was invariably sidelined..

Simple equation of -Financial Clout equates to Political Power !

Perhaps Mahathir subscribed to the view that to be a powerful effective leader, first priority is to accumulate as much wealth as possible, wealth equals power – to buy influence – to have the financial  clout or resources to ward off challenges to his leadership and to fund his own political battles.

Perhaps TDM was convinced that everything/everyone  has a price..and thus,he wants to ensure He can afford it all ,whatever the price tag..

Dr. Mahathir, a poem

Dr. Mahathir , I wait for the day.!

FMT LETTER: Raken Marimuthu,

Tun, Do you I know how much I love you

I admire, adore and appreciate you Tun

You are my Nelson Mandela of the East

Statesmen, a great leader and a visionary

You are the Father of our Nation,

Not only for Muslims but for all human beings

A humanitarian above caste creed and color

Above politics and petty issues of rabbles

Above borders, religion, cult and sectarianism

A classic leader whom the whole world respects

I wait for the day you will say I love all my people

I wait for the day you will say this country is for all

I wait for the day you will say all races are equal

I wait for the day you will say all must have equal opportunities

I wait for the day you will say let us all be united as Malaysians

I wait for the day the whole country will celebrate you as our hero

And my Rambling Thots and say:

Right on bro, and we can all wait till the cows come home and the pigs start to climb trees and roosters lay eggs as hens crow every morning or chicken and ducks start talking to each other in BM. etc etc or Samy Velu comes out of retirement and declares ” demolish all toll booths immediately!” But reality creeps in and we still have to wake up every morning.

Hopeful that the Tun does suddenly decide to stay out of politics and borrow few pages from his friend..the venerable living saint MADIBA, Nelson Mandela..

Until this day , many Malaysians are still unsure as to the true nature of TDM and what is really in his heart , whether he is really racist to the core , as most Malaysians want to/or convincingly believe , or he just cannot let go of the political power play.

It is sad actually to think that at our honorable  Tun’s age and , his very stature still able to occupy and command a very influential position with the hearts and minds of Malaysians. He chooses to use that powerful influence in the political arena instead of using his venerated standing to help in mending the rifts in our Malaysian society- which he easily can if he chooses to do so – and promote or generate more goodwill, affection and acceptance amongst  each other in our diverse multi cultural back drop and just let the other younger Turks play the political power game.

Dear Tun M, i wonder whether you have any idea of the respect , reverence and affection that you have amongst a  generation plus of Malaysians that grew up under your governance and prospered , witnessing the progress and prosperity you created under your watch and also , to be fair , the hiccups .

But  it hurts much more to see you damaging that reverence and respect for you with the recent exhibitions of attitudes and statements from you which have made  many to be uncertain and insecure of their impression of the great TDM and have their faith in their dear Tun shaken to the core..

Age catches up with everyone and won’t it be great , dear Tun Mahathir  , if Malaysians can witness a  journey of the final chapters of the saga of the great Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in a quest of  uniting hearts and minds, rather than attempt to forcefully dividing them with resentment , moulding into one singular force , collectively known as Malaysians !
